NYC Pirates jet skiers rescue teen from East River
A jet ski crew known as the NYC Pirates rescued a 19-year-old man from the East River on Wednesday after he jumped from the 278-foot Brooklyn Bridge. The group, led by 37-year-old James Reichelt, witnessed the jump while out on the water during unseasonably warm weather.
Reichelt reported that the teenager was approximately one foot below the water's surface and still conscious when the crew reached him. The jet skiers stabilized the injured man and transferred him to an NYPD Harbor Unit boat at South Street Seaport.
The teenager was subsequently transported by ambulance to Bellevue Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.
