O2 and Digi introduce WiFi 7 routers with upgrade fees

Telecommunications operators O2 and Digi are introducing WiFi 7 routers to their service catalogs, though current customers face specific conditions to upgrade. O2 has stated it is not performing a massive rollout for existing users, as the technology is currently in a limited pilot phase to ensure network performance and stability.

Upgrading to these new routers requires a fee. For O2, the cost starts at 60 euros for self-installation, with additional charges for technician visits. Digi offers upgrades for between 30 and 60 euros depending on the chosen installation method.

Crucially, these devices are provided as temporary loans rather than purchases. Even after paying the upgrade fee, customers do not own the equipment. If a user terminates their contract or switches providers, the routers must be returned to avoid penalties. For example, Digi may charge compensation of 50 to 150 euros for unreturned equipment, while O2 sets a penalty of 97.3 euros for failing to return its fiber optic HGU router.
