OAB Rondônia petitions CNJ over judge's refusal to meet with lawyer

The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) in Rondônia has filed a formal complaint with the National Council of Justice (CNJ) regarding a judge's refusal to meet with a lawyer. The incident occurred at the 1st Federal Court of the Rondônia Judicial Section.

According to the OAB, a request for a meeting or videoconference made on July 27 was denied by the court secretariat on July 29. The court claimed the meeting was unnecessary because the matter lacked urgency, a decision made without the lawyer being permitted to present the case.

OAB Rondônia President Márcio Nogueira stated that the refusal violates the Statute of Advocacy, which guarantees lawyers the right to approach magistrates directly. The association argues that allowing a court to preemptively decide the necessity of a meeting based on a prior assessment of the subject matter undermines legal prerogatives.
