Oaxaca de Juárez authorities suspend Parque Oaxaca construction due to ground damage

Construction of the Parque Oaxaca commercial center by Fibra Danhos in Oaxaca de Juárez has caused significant ground instability, including fissures in nearby homes and subsidence in several streets. The issues escalated following the collapse of a retaining wall and a slope within a 15-meter deep excavation between August 21 and 22.

Civil Protection authorities have confirmed vertical cracks in residences located in Privada de las Rosas and visible sinkholes and fractures in surrounding roads, including Calzada Porfirio Díaz and Eucaliptos. In response, municipal and state authorities have implemented several emergency measures, including the suspension of excavation work and the establishment of a restricted risk zone.

Local government officials, including Mayor Ray Chagoya, have demanded that Fibra Danhos provide updated specialized studies, such as new soil mechanics, geophysical studies, and vibrational impact reports. Authorities are also monitoring crack movement daily and have requested intervention from SOAPA to manage water filtrations. Traffic remains restricted on several nearby streets to ensure public safety.
