The construction of the Parque Oaxaca commercial center by Fibra Danhos in Oaxaca de Juárez has led to significant structural and geological instability. Following the collapse of sections of a perimeter wall and a slope within a 15-meter deep excavation, the municipal government faced criticism for failing to act on prior warnings regarding potential risks.
As the situation escalated, authorities confirmed the presence of vertical cracks in nearby residences, sinkholes, and fractures in surrounding roads such as Calzada Porfirio Díaz. In response to the ground damage and subsidence, municipal and state authorities have suspended excavation work and established a restricted risk zone.
Mayor Raymundo Chagoya Villanueva has demanded that the developer provide updated specialized studies, including new soil mechanics, geophysical studies, and vibrational impact reports. Emergency measures are currently in place, including daily monitoring of crack movement and water filtration management to ensure public safety.
