Oaxaca de Juárez faces scrutiny over Plaza Parque Oaxaca construction risks
The Oaxaca de Juárez municipal government, led by Raymundo Chagoya Villanueva, is facing criticism regarding the Plaza Parque Oaxaca construction project. Following the collapse of several sections of the perimeter wall in the containment area, authorities have announced plans for new technical studies, including soil mechanics, geophysical studies, and vibration impact assessments.
Legislator Alejandra García Morán of Movimiento Ciudadano had reportedly warned of potential risks more than two weeks prior. Her proposal, dated July 3, urged the municipality and environmental authorities to conduct inspections and implement sanctions for any regulatory or structural safety violations. However, the request was referred to commissions rather than being acted upon immediately. Critics note that the current technical assessments are being initiated only after structural failures have occurred, potentially endangering adjacent constructions and municipal roads.
