Oaxaca Governor announces education and heritage projects in San Melchor Betaza

The Governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara Cruz, oversaw the completion of restoration works on the San Melchor Betaza temple and inspected the progress of a new community musical baccalaureate campus in the Sierra de Juárez region.

The restoration of the 18th-century temple involved a 3.3 million peso investment. Works included consolidating walls and vaults, repairing the sacristy roof, replacing altar finishes, rehabilitating wooden doors, and restoring floors and lighting. The site contains historical elements such as an 1835 organ and a bell dated 1741.

Additionally, 12.5 million pesos have been allocated for the first stage of construction of the new community musical baccalaureate campus. Governor Jara Cruz also announced plans to begin work on establishing a university in San Melchor Betaza to expand professional training opportunities for local youth.
