Oaxaca Legislature approves restrictions for child support debtors
The LXVI Legislature has approved reforms to the State Family Code aimed at ensuring the effective fulfillment of child support payments. The measure, passed with 31 votes in favor, establishes a series of administrative and legal restrictions for individuals registered in the State Registry of Delinquent Child Support Debtors.
Under the new regulations, debtors will face several impediments, including the inability to obtain, renew, or replace driver's licenses. The reform also restricts their ability to run for elective office, aspire to local judicial positions such as judges or magistrates, or participate in public selection processes for state or autonomous constitutional bodies.
In civil and patrimonial matters, the law restricts the ability to perform notary acts related to the sale of real estate or the transmission of real rights. Additionally, during marriage applications, civil registry officials are now required to inform applicants if either party is listed in the registry of delinquent debtors.
