Oaxaca's Octava del Lunes del Cerro 2026 Draws Full House at Auditorio Guelaguetza
On 27 July 2026 the Octava del Lunes del Cerro – the morning session of Oaxaca’s Guelaguetza – opened in the Auditorio Guelaguetza to a completely filled audience. Fourteen delegations representing the eight regions of the state performed traditional dances, sones, jarabes and other customs. Governor Salomón Jara Cruz attended with his wife Irma Bolaños Quijano and welcomed the participants, noting the state’s support for the 16 indigenous and Afro‑Mexican peoples.
The ceremony also hosted national figures such as Supreme Court minister Lenia Batres Guadarrama, Palestinian envoy Nadya Rasheed and other dignitaries. Senator Luis Alfonso Silva Romo sent a message praising the cultural wealth on display and reaffirming his commitment to the region’s development. A delegation from San Juan Bautista Cuicatlán staged a farewell calenda before traveling to the festival, highlighting the event’s role in showcasing Oaxaca’s heritage to national and international visitors.
