Overview

July 2026 saw an intensive programme of Oaxaca’s cultural showcase. Early‑month exhibitions in Mexico City highlighted regional artisans and a Mitla‑tomb replica, while the multidisciplinary performance "El Mundo Mágico de los Binnigulaza" opened in Oaxaca city on 9 July. The Expo Feria Huajuapan (11 July) concluded the "Huajuapan Canta con UNICAM" contest, and San Buenaventura presented a historic‑photo show. Governor Salomón Jara Cruz inaugurated the 27th Feria del Mezcal y de Artesanías (16 July), a twelve‑day fair with over 400 participants, 20 musical groups, and ticket proceeds earmarked for the Hogar Primavera housing program. The opening Calenda de las Culturas parade coincided with Guelaguetza festivities, and new safety services such as “Taxi Gunaa” were launched. Cultural activities continued on 18 July with the Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca’s "Gráfica" exhibit and the multi‑venue "Contrastes" show featuring 39 Mixteca artists.

On 27 July the Octava del Lunes del Cerro drew a full house, with a farewell calenda from San Juan Bautista Cuicatlán underscoring the celebration of Oaxaca’s 16 indigenous and Afro‑Mexican peoples. Governor Jara Cruz, accompanied by his wife Irma Bolaños Quijano, attended alongside national figures including Supreme Court minister Lenia Batres Guadarrama and Palestinian envoy Nadya Rasheed.

During the Feria del Mezcal, the book *Herencia y Maestría* profiling 44 mezcal masters was unveiled; officials used the occasion to urge a review of the IEPS excise tax, a reform now being examined by a Chamber of Deputies working group.

The series of exhibitions, fairs, performances and festivals demonstrates a sustained commitment to preserving Oaxaca’s heritage, promoting regional artisans, and generating economic benefits for local communities throughout the month.
