Oberschwabenklinik serves 175k patients as deficits grow

The Oberschwabenklinik gGmbH (OSK) reported serving about 174,900 patients in its 2025 fiscal year, an increase of 8,394 over the prior year. The hospital treated 37,660 inpatients, including geriatric rehabilitation, and 103,956 ambulatory cases. Emergency departments handled 76,532 cases, a 44 % rise in five years.

OSK posted a year‑end loss of €23.192 million, only marginally better than the previous year. The clinic criticised the GKV‑Beitragssatzstabilisierungsgesetz adopted on 10 July 2026, saying it shifts financing burdens from insurers to municipalities and will add at least €10 million per year to OSK’s costs. Projections by the Baden‑Württemberg hospital association indicate hospital deficits could reach €1.65 billion by 2027.

The OSK welcomed the federal hospital reform’s move toward concentration of services and the introduction of standby fees, while urging that performance‑group allocations consider the entire supply region from Lake Constance to Ulm to help relieve financial pressure. New medical centres in Friedrichshafen and Tettnang joined OSK in early 2026, expanding its network.
