Obihiro to host sake tasting event featuring 50 varieties
A sake tasting event titled ‘Nihon Meimonshu Obihiro Tomo no Kai’ is scheduled to take place on October 8 at the Hokkaido Hotel in Obihiro. Organized by the local liquor specialist Kuraya, the event features approximately 50 varieties of sake and shochu from 11 breweries across Japan.
Participating brands include Otokoyama from Asahikawa, Urakasumi from Miyagi, Koshinohomare from Niigata, and Tsukasa Botan from Kochi. The event aims to promote sake culture and help attendees find their preferred brands. This marks a continuation of an event that has been held for over 30 years, which had been suspended since 2019 due to the pandemic.
According to the National Tax Agency, sake consumption in Hokkaido stands at 3.8 liters per adult, which is consistent with the national average but lower than high-consumption regions like Niigata or Akita.
