Occitanie officials address heatwave concerns for school reopening

As the school year begins in the Occitanie region of France, officials are addressing concerns regarding extreme heat and student comfort. Carole Delga, President of the Occitanie region, stated that the administration is evaluating the need for air conditioning in high schools on a case-by-case basis rather than implementing a universal mandate.

To prepare for potential heatwaves during future exams, such as the 2027 baccalaureate, the region is exploring various solutions for its 226 public high schools. These measures include installing ceiling fans, UV-protective window films, solar protection, and reconfiguring classroom layouts to improve energy performance. Delga has sent correspondence to school principals to identify specific needs at each institution to ensure students can complete exams under optimal conditions.
