Ocean County police arrest alleged scam courier

Police in Berkeley Township, Ocean County, arrested a 24-year-old New York man following an attempted scam targeting an elderly woman. The suspect, identified as Gurdutt Singh of South Richmond, New York, was apprehended while attempting to collect $30,000 in cash from the victim's home.

The victim reported that she was targeted after a fraudulent Microsoft error message appeared on her computer screen. Scammers posing as Microsoft employees convinced her that her bank accounts were compromised, eventually transferring her to a man impersonating a Wells Fargo employee. The victim had already mailed a $50,000 cashier’s check to the scammers before realizing she was being defrauded.

While officers were investigating the initial theft at the victim's residence, the suspects contacted her again to request an additional $30,000, stating they would send a courier to collect the funds for safe keeping. Singh was arrested upon arriving at the home in a Toyota Rav-4.
