Marineland animals die following relocation to Spain and US

Five marine animals have died following their relocation from the closed Marineland park in Niagara Falls, Canada, to various international facilities.

At the Oceanogràfic in Valencia, Spain, a dolphin named Echo died after experiencing respiratory issues and difficulty swallowing. Her death follows the recent passing of Jelly Bean, a beluga whale also transferred from Marineland. Echo had arrived in Spain with pre-existing vision problems and required individualized care.

In the United States, the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago reported the deaths of three beluga whales: Peekachu, Rain, and Osiris. Necropsies performed on Peekachu and Rain revealed significant chronic inflammatory disease within their gastrointestinal systems. Experts noted that these conditions likely developed over an extended period, potentially before the animals arrived at the new facility, making them more vulnerable.

The mass relocation of 30 belugas and four dolphins was initiated after Marineland faced financial difficulties and could no longer sustain the animals. The remaining relocated animals are currently under professional veterinary supervision.
