Octavio Romero Oropeza releases asset declaration after presidential request

Octavio Romero Oropeza, the Director General of Infonavit, has released his asset declaration following a direct request for transparency from President Claudia Sheinbaum. Previously, the institute’s Transparency Committee had classified the document as confidential.

The declaration reveals that in 2025, Romero Oropeza reported total income of approximately 4.36 million pesos. This includes 2.26 million pesos in salaries and other concepts, a figure that exceeds the 1.79 million pesos reported as annual salary by President Sheinbaum. Additionally, he reported 212,171 pesos from rents, royalties, interests, and dividends, along with 1.88 million pesos categorized as “other income.”

Regarding real estate, the filing shows that on March 14, 2018, Romero Oropeza acquired two 74-square-meter apartments on the same day. One was purchased for 3.37 million pesos in cash, while the other cost 3.39 million pesos via a mortgage. These acquisitions occurred months before his appointment as Director General of Pemex during the previous administration.
