Infonavit Director patrimonial declaration dispute
Overview
Octavio Romero Oropeza, Director General of Infonavit, initially classified his patrimonial declaration as confidential. Supported by the institute’s Transparency Committee, this decision prevented public access to his income, real estate, bank accounts, and assets belonging to his spouse and dependents. Critics argued that withholding the declaration violated the constitutional principle of maximum publicity.
Following a direct request for transparency from President Claudia Sheinbaum, Romero Oropeza released the declaration. The filing revealed a total income of approximately 4.36 million pesos in 2025, consisting of 2.26 million pesos in salaries, 212,171 pesos from rents and dividends, and 1.88 million pesos in “other income.” The documents also detailed real estate acquisitions from 2018, including two apartments purchased for a combined total of approximately 6.76 million pesos.
