Kherson authorities urge evacuation after Russian strikes hit heating plant FAST-MOVING
Ukrainian authorities have issued an urgent evacuation order for residents of Kherson, specifically targeting families with children and the elderly. This plea comes after Russian forces launched a series of strikes using glide bombs that caused critical damage to the city's heating station. Naftogaz reported that the strikes disabled or destroyed essential equipment required for electricity and heat production.
Kherson regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin described the security situation as extremely difficult, warning that the city could face prolonged outages of electricity and heating, potentially lasting much longer than just hours or days. He noted that Russia has intensified its use of guided aerial bombs and jet-powered drones, which current Ukrainian defenses lack the means to intercept effectively.
In addition to the crisis in Kherson, widespread Russian attacks targeted multiple Ukrainian regions. A massive seven-hour strike hit the Odessa region, involving missiles and drones that damaged residential buildings, schools, and infrastructure. Other reported strikes affected Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Kyiv. In Kharkiv, a drone strike killed one person and injured at least four others, while drone debris and fires in Kyiv resulted in four injuries.
