Odisha campus polls: Over 8,500 candidates file nominations
More than 8,500 candidates filed nominations on Friday for the upcoming student union elections scheduled for October 15 across universities and colleges in Odisha. The nomination process saw significant activity across 13 universities, including Utkal, Rama Devi, and Ravenshaw, as well as over 300 colleges.
According to the Higher Education department, of the total nominations submitted, 1,175 college-level forms were rejected, leaving 7,168 valid candidates. Major student organizations participating include the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD), National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), and the All India Students’ Federation (AISF).
Candidates arrived at various institutions in large processions accompanied by traditional music and drumbeats to demonstrate organizational strength. Political agendas highlighted by participating groups include campus development, social security, quality education, and the regularization of staff.
