Odisha CM Majhi disburses Subhadra Yojana funds to 1 crore women
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has disbursed the fifth instalment of the Subhadra Yojana, a flagship welfare scheme aimed at women's empowerment. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the government transferred Rs 5,000 each to the bank accounts of 1,03,26,162 eligible women beneficiaries across the state.
The disbursement, conducted via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), involves more than Rs 5,163 crore. For 221,054 beneficiaries who were receiving the scheme for the first time, the government provided a lump-sum payment of Rs 25,000 to account for both current and pending instalments.
Under the Subhadra Yojana, eligible women are set to receive a total of Rs 50,000 over five years through annual instalments. Chief Minister Majhi noted that the scheme has significant economic impacts, stating that approximately 25.52% of beneficiaries have utilized the funds to start businesses such as tailoring, dairy farming, and vegetable cultivation.
