Odisha Subhadra Yojana financial assistance scheme

Overview

The Odisha government is implementing the Subhadra Yojana, a flagship financial assistance scheme aimed at women's economic empowerment. The program provides a total of Rs 50,000 to eligible beneficiaries over a five-year period through annual installments.

In mid-August, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida announced that the next installment would be disbursed on August 28 to coincide with Raksha Purnima. Following a verification process that removed deceased individuals from the rolls, the number of eligible recipients was set at approximately 10.2 million women.

On August 28, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi oversaw the disbursement of the fifth installment, transferring Rs 5,000 each to the bank accounts of 1,03,26,162 eligible women via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The total disbursement amounted to more than Rs 5,163 crore. For 221,054 beneficiaries receiving the scheme for the first time, the government provided a lump-sum payment of Rs 25,000 to cover both current and pending installments.

Chief Minister Majhi noted the scheme’s economic impact, stating that approximately 25.52% of beneficiaries have utilized the funds to start businesses such as tailoring, dairy farming, and vegetable cultivation. He characterized the initiative as the state’s largest women's welfare scheme, designed to foster self-reliance.
