Odisha DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khuraniya calls for stronger inter‑state police coordination on emerging security threats

On 21 July in Bhubaneswar, Odisha’s Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khuraniya opened the Eastern Regional Police Coordination Committee 2026 meeting. The high‑level session, convened under the Ministry of Home Affairs, brought together DGPs from Bihar, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, senior officials of central armed police forces and other police agencies.

Khuraniya urged a joint, technology‑driven strategy to confront security challenges that cross state borders, including organized crime, left‑wing extremism, cybercrime, drug and human trafficking, and railway security threats. Participants discussed concrete measures such as monitoring surrendered extremists, curbing inter‑state drug smuggling, real‑time intelligence sharing for cyber offences, timely transfer of FIRs, joint anti‑gang operations, and enhanced policing in border areas. The DGP emphasized that no single state can tackle these modern threats alone and highlighted the need for rapid information exchange and modern policing tools.

The meeting concluded with a consensus that stronger inter‑state cooperation and intelligence integration will reinforce law‑and‑order and national security in eastern India.
