In late July 2026, Odisha’s Director General of Police convened the Eastern Regional Police Coordination Committee, urging a joint, technology‑driven approach to tackle cross‑border threats such as organized crime, left‑wing extremism, cybercrime, drug and human trafficking, and railway security. The meeting brought together DGPs from neighboring states and central police agencies, resulting in a consensus on enhanced intelligence sharing and cooperative operations.

A week later, Odisha Police formalised a five‑year memorandum of understanding with the National Forensic Sciences University to train 480 officers in cyber forensics and digital investigation. The programme, launched with the participation of the DGP, aims to build specialised capacity, support joint research, and upgrade forensic infrastructure, directly addressing the rising cyber‑crime cases highlighted in the earlier coordination call. Together, the two steps illustrate Odisha’s shift from high‑level regional coordination to concrete capacity‑building measures to confront modern security challenges.
