Odisha: Elderly woman rescued after drifting 30 km in Brahmani River

An elderly woman was rescued after surviving approximately 12 hours in the Brahmani River in Odisha, India. The woman, identified as Kesi Dalai, was swept away from the riverbank on a Saturday night after slipping on uneven or slippery ground.

During her ordeal, she drifted between 25 and 30 kilometers downstream through floodwaters. She was eventually spotted by two fishermen, Abhijit Sahoo and Sudhir Mallick, who were traveling in a boat near Pattamundai in the Kendrapara district. The rescuers pulled her into their boat and provided initial assistance before she was transported to the Pattamundai sub-divisional hospital.

Despite the river being noted as crocodile-infested, the woman survived the night and was found in an exhausted but stable condition. Her family expressed gratitude to the fishermen for their intervention.
