Odisha establishes Economic Advisory Council for long-term growth
The Odisha government has established the Chief Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (CM-EAC) to serve as an independent, data-driven think tank. The council is tasked with guiding the state’s fiscal policy, structural reforms, and long-term economic roadmap.
The council aims to support two primary development milestones: achieving a $500 billion economy by 2036 under the ‘Samruddha Odisha’ initiative, and reaching a $1.5 trillion economy by 2047 under ‘Vikshit Odisha’.
The panel consists of seven eminent experts with two-year tenures, covering fields such as governance, agriculture, taxation, macroeconomics, and technology. Notable members include former Odisha Chief Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra, former IMF Senior Economist Arbind Modi, former Union Agriculture Secretary Dr. Shobhana Kumar Pattanayak, and Sarvam AI Co-founder and CEO Pratyush Kumar. Academic experts Dr. Deepak Mishra and Prof. Srijit Mishra also join the council. Administrative support will be provided by the state’s Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner, who serve as ex-officio members.
