Odisha floods affect thousands as Subarnarekha river breaches banks

Flooding in Odisha has affected tens of thousands of residents across multiple districts. In Balasore, the Subarnarekha river breached its banks after the release of excess water from the Galudih barrage in Jharkhand, impacting approximately 45,000 people across 22 gram panchayats. The river rose to 11.06 metres at Jaleswar, exceeding the danger mark.

In Jajpur district, the Dasarathpur block remains affected, with 7,745 people impacted across 62 villages. Meanwhile, Mayurbhanj district has seen 18 blocks and 84 villages affected, with 2,763 people impacted and over 2,000 evacuated to relief camps.

State authorities have deployed 157 response teams, including ODRAF and Fire & Emergency Services, to manage rescue and restoration efforts. Relief camps are providing essential services such as food, medical assistance, and clean water, with special provisions for vulnerable groups including children and the elderly.
