Odisha manages widespread flooding and advances urban infrastructure
Odisha is managing significant flood impacts, with over 1.3 million people affected across several districts. While the situation in some areas like Balasore is easing as major rivers recede below danger levels, hundreds of villages remain marooned. The state has evacuated nearly 487,000 people into relief shelters and is providing food and essential supplies.
In response to recurring urban flooding, the Odisha government has ordered advanced flood monitoring using sensors and mechanized drain cleaning in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Additionally, officials have been directed to prioritize the timely completion of water resource and irrigation projects.
