Odisha orders statewide narcotics crackdown from October 10
Odisha Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has ordered a statewide special enforcement drive to combat the illegal drug trade from October 10 to October 31. The initiative aims to support the state government's goal of eradicating narcotics and aligns with the national vision of an addiction-free India.
During a high-level review meeting with district superintendents, the Minister emphasized the need for intensified raids due to the increased risk of smuggling and criminal activity during the upcoming festive season. He directed officials to adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward habitual offenders and instructed them to gather robust evidence to ensure high conviction rates in court.
Excise Commissioner P. Anwesha Reddy provided data on recent district-wise operations, including seizures, vehicle confiscations, and arrests. The Minister also noted that the department has achieved 95% of its Minimum Guaranteed Excise Revenue target.
