Odisha Police intensify ‘Daman’ crackdown ahead of festive season

Odisha Police have intensified their ‘Daman’ operation, a special crackdown launched on September 21 to curb illegal activities and ensure security ahead of the festive season. Under the direction of DGP Vinaytosh Mishra, the coordinated effort involving district, railway, and commissionerate police has resulted in the arrest of 346 individuals and the execution of 1,448 non-bailable warrants.

In the anti-narcotics sweep, police registered 89 cases under the NDPS Act, arresting 109 people. Authorities seized approximately 8.13 tonnes of ganja, destroyed 19,387 cannabis plants, and confiscated 394.645 grams of brown sugar along with 1,066 bottles of cough syrup.

The crackdown on illegal liquor led to 1,707 cases under the Excise Act and 140 arrests, with the seizure of over 10,000 litres of country liquor and nearly 3,000 litres of foreign liquor. Additionally, police addressed organized crime, gambling, and illegal arms, seizing firearms, ammunition, and significant amounts of cash.
