Odisha political leaders clash over governance and upcoming elections

Political tensions are rising in Odisha as leaders from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) trade criticisms ahead of upcoming local elections.

Naveen Patnaik, BJD President and former Chief Minister, launched a monthly 'Jan Sampark' foot march in Bhubaneswar, accusing the BJP-led state government of widespread mismanagement. Patnaik cited issues including delays in old-age pensions, difficulties faced by farmers and women, deteriorating law and order, and errors in school textbooks. He further alleged that the state government has failed in flood relief, paddy procurement, and recruitment examinations, while claiming the central government has stripped Odia people of their mining rights.

In response, BJP Odisha in-charge D. Purandeswari expressed confidence in the party's performance in the upcoming panchayat and local body elections. During a meeting at the party headquarters, Purandeswari emphasized the need for better coordination between the party organization and the state government to strengthen their grassroots presence. The BJP aims to challenge the BJD, which currently holds more than 80 percent of the seats in district councils and urban local bodies.
