Odisha reaches 7th nationally in rooftop solar adoption

Odisha has significantly increased its rooftop solar adoption, rising from 13th to 7th position in national rankings under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. According to data from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the state has recorded over 1.74 lakh rooftop solar installations, with applications exceeding 3.12 lakh. This growth has seen the application-to-installation conversion rate improve from 37.1% to 53.4%.

The expansion is supported by a combination of central and state financial assistance, allowing eligible households to receive up to ₹1.38 lakh for a 3 kWp system. Implementation is being driven by four distribution companies: TPCODL, TPWODL, TPNODL, and TPSODL. TPCODL has facilitated the highest number of installations with 56,842, followed by TPWODL with 48,905, TPNODL with 44,785, and TPSODL with 23,881.

The state has reached approximately 410 MWp of rooftop solar capacity and has set a target to achieve 3 lakh rooftop solar installations by 2027.
