Odpadový Oskar awards recognize Czech municipalities for low waste production

The 12th annual Odpadový Oskar awards, organized by Arnika, have recognized Czech municipalities for their success in minimizing mixed municipal waste production per capita.

In the Hradec Králové region, Hajnice won the medium-sized municipality category (1,000–5,000 residents) with 96.5 kg per person, aided by a dense network of sorting bins and local composting. Hostinné followed in second place. In the smallest municipality category, Trotina ranked first, while Černý Důl took second.

In the South Bohemian region, Chvalšiny successfully defended its title in the 1,000–5,000 resident category, leading both regionally and nationally with 51.7 kg per capita. Vráto claimed first place among municipalities with fewer than 1,000 residents, achieving a 75.7% sorting rate. In the largest municipality category (over 5,000 residents), Prachatice took the top spot, reducing its waste production by more than 10 kg per capita compared to the previous year.
