OEA and CARICOM leaders lead high-level mission to Haiti

A high-level international delegation is visiting Haiti from August 16 to 19 to coordinate support for the country’s ongoing crisis. The mission is led by Albert Ramdin, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OEA), and Carla Barnett, Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

The delegation includes representatives from the United Nations, the Pan American Health Organization, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean. The visit aims to translate international solidarity into concrete support for priorities identified by Haitians, particularly regarding security challenges and the upcoming presidential and legislative elections scheduled for December 13.

During the visit, the delegation met with Haitian Foreign Minister Raina Forbin, Defense Minister Mario Andrésol, and Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) President Jacques Desrosiers. Discussions are expected to focus on electoral preparations and strengthening international cooperation to address the nation's multifaceted challenges.
