OECD Forum in Athens highlights €13 trillion in global tax information exchange

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR) is hosting the 25th meeting of the OECD Global Forum Peer Review Group on Automatic Exchange of Information (APRG) in Athens. The forum focuses on enhancing global tax transparency and combating tax evasion through the exchange of expertise and best practices.

During his opening speech, IAPR Governor Giorgos Pitsilis highlighted that in a connected world where financial assets move across borders instantly, tax authorities must share information internationally. He noted that in 2024, information regarding more than 171 million financial accounts, representing nearly €13 trillion in assets, was exchanged globally under the Common Reporting Standard (CRS).

Pitsilis also emphasized the need for transparency to evolve alongside financial innovation, specifically mentioning the modified CRS and the new Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF). He stated that the IAPR is investing in digital transformation and data usage to meet these challenges, noting that no single country can address these issues in isolation.
