OECD information integrity project launch
Overview
The OECD launched a five-year Cross-Border Project on Enhancing Information Integrity with a kickoff meeting in Athens. Supported by Norway and the European Economic Area (EEA) Grants, the initiative aims to implement international standards through three pillars: social resilience, strong institutions, and the pluralism and transparency of sources.
Participating nations include Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, Lithuania, Poland, and Romania. During the launch, Greek Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis characterized misinformation as a ‘crisis’ that undermines public trust in institutions and voting. He argued that addressing the deliberate dissemination of false information must be done ‘without becoming a pretext for censorship’ and suggested that strengthening the broader information ecosystem and addressing online anonymity are necessary steps.
