Off-duty firefighters rescue 13 from burning bus in Paraná

Two off-duty firefighters from the Paraná Military Fire Department (CBMPR) rescued 13 people from a burning bus following a collision in Ortigueira, Brazil. The accident occurred around 2:00 AM on Monday on the BR-376 highway when the bus struck the rear of a soy-laden truck.

Corporal Vinícius Alexandre Grumberg Garcia and Cadet Danilo de Oliveira Kitzberger, who were passengers on the bus, took immediate action despite sustaining injuries from the impact. The passengers, many of whom were elderly individuals traveling to Curitiba for medical treatments, were evacuated through a jammed side door that the firefighters forced open.

The rescue operation lasted approximately 15 minutes before flames consumed the lower part of the vehicle. After evacuating the passengers to a nearby roadside, the firefighters returned to the front of the bus to assist the driver, who was trapped in the wreckage.
