Bus collision and fire in Paraná, Brazil

Overview

On August 31, 2026, a bus collided with the rear of a truck carrying soy on the BR-376 highway in Ortigueira, Brazil. The collision resulted in the vehicle catching fire.

Two off-duty firefighters from the Paraná Military Fire Department, Corporal Vinícius Alexandre Grumberg Garcia and Cadet Danilo de Oliveira Kitzberger, were passengers on the bus. Despite sustaining injuries from the impact, they forced open a jammed side door to evacuate 13 passengers, many of whom were elderly individuals traveling to Curitiba for medical treatments.
