Off‑duty Croatian police officer fires warning shot in Rogoznica incident

On 19 July, an off‑duty police officer in Rogoznica, Croatia, threatened three men during a traffic dispute and discharged a single shot from his service pistol into the air. The officer was later detained, placed under police supervision, and a criminal complaint was filed for endangering life and property.

Twenty‑one‑year‑old Ejla Bešić, a Bosnian‑Herzegovinian citizen visiting Croatia, gave a detailed account of the event. She said she and a friend had stopped in the town centre to buy ice‑cream when a driver honked, leading to a verbal clash. The driver then drew his pistol, chased the pair, and at one point held a man by the throat while aiming the weapon before a shot was fired. Bešić called her father for help; he became ill and was taken to hospital. The witnesses were taken to Šibenik police station for statements, and Bešić was temporarily barred from leaving Croatia, with the Bosnian embassy notified.
