Incidents involving firearms and foreign citizens in Croatia
Overview
In July 2026, an off-duty Croatian police officer was detained following a traffic dispute in Rogoznica. Witnesses reported that the officer threatened three individuals and discharged a service pistol into the air. A criminal complaint was filed for endangering life and property, and the incident involved a Bosnian-Herzegovinian citizen who was temporarily barred from leaving Croatia.
In August 2026, a separate incident involving a Bosnian citizen in Dubrovnik resulted in a fatal police pursuit. The individual allegedly stole a service weapon from a bank security guard before fleeing in a van. Following a chase along the Adriatic Highway, the individual committed suicide with the stolen weapon in Slano.
