Office of the Registrar of Political Parties begins renaming The Equitable Party
The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has initiated the formal process to rename The Equitable Party (TEP) to the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM). This rebranding effort is associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and is intended to serve as a grassroots movement ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Registrar John Cox Lorionokou confirmed that the office has begun the gazettement process under Section 20(1)(d) of the Political Parties Act following the submission of a resolution by the party’s National Executive Committee. The rebranding follows a decision by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, which overturned a previous rejection by the ORPP regarding name reservation overlaps.
The process now requires the party to allow for a public feedback period. The ORPP will publish the proposed changes in the Kenya Gazette to invite any public objections before issuing a final certificate of registration under the new name.
