Linda Mwananchi Movement registration in Kenya

Overview

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has moved to facilitate the establishment of the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM), a political entity associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Following a ruling by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) that overturned a previous refusal to reserve the name, the ORPP approved a 90-day reservation period for ‘Linda Mwananchi Movement’ and its abbreviation.

Subsequently, the ORPP initiated the formal process to rename The Equitable Party (TEP) to the Linda Mwananchi Movement. This rebranding, intended to serve as a grassroots movement for the 2027 General Election, has entered the gazettement stage. The process now requires a public feedback period to allow for objections before a final certificate of registration is issued under the new name.
