Nigeria security forces rescue hundreds of kidnap victims and neutralize bandits
Nigerian security forces have conducted a series of operations resulting in the rescue of hundreds of kidnap victims and the neutralization of criminal elements across several states. The North Peace and Stability Forum (NPSF) commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for rescuing 610 individuals and eliminating a notorious bandit kingpin in Katsina State. Notable rescues include 15 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and 21 victims in Kogi State.
In Borno and Yobe, troops engaged terrorists, neutralizing several individuals and recovering weapons including AK-47 rifles and improvised explosive devices. In Borno, a suspected family member of terrorists and her two children surrendered to the military.
Regional police commands have also taken proactive measures. The Kano State Police Command deployed 250 specially trained officers to border local government areas to combat cross-border criminality and banditry. In Kebbi, police arrested suspects involved in attempted murder, robbery, and the theft of generators from an INEC office. Additionally, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has entered a collaboration with the University of Uyo to enhance campus security.
