OHB Italia wins contract to build PRISMA Second Generation hyperspectral satellite

The Italian Space Agency (ASI) has selected OHB Italia, a subsidiary of the German aerospace group OHB SE, as the prime contractor for the PRISMA Second Generation (PSG) Earth observation mission. The satellite, slated for launch by the end of 2031, will provide hyperspectral imaging with a three‑fold improvement in spatial resolution – targeting 10 m compared with the 30 m of the original PRISMA satellite – to support environmental monitoring, climate research, resource management and disaster response.

Thales Alenia Space Italia will supply the satellite platform (PRIMA‑S) and Leonardo will provide the hyperspectral instrument, while OHB Italia leads overall system development. CEO Roberto Aceti said the contract “confirms OHB Italia’s strong position in hyperspectral remote sensing”. The award adds to OHB’s involvement in European missions such as EnMAP and Copernicus‑CHIME.

Following the announcement, OHB shares rose modestly by about 1.3 % but remained well below their 52‑week high, reflecting continued market pressure despite the new order.
