Ohio bids to host U.S. Space Academy at Wright-Patterson
Ohio is actively campaigning to host the proposed U.S. Space Academy, with officials highlighting the state’s existing aerospace infrastructure. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman has indicated that Ohio represents a “good shot” for the academy, noting the region's strong interest in spaceflight and established technical networks.
Senator Bernie Moreno is leading a statewide initiative to secure the facility, while Governor Mike DeWine has assembled a steering group to prepare a formal submission. Proponents suggest Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the NASA Glenn Research Center as primary components of a potential site. The proposed academy, envisioned as a NASA-led federal institution, aims to combine technical education with leadership development to prepare graduates for military, civilian, and private space-sector careers.
A presidential commission is currently tasked with determining the academy’s governance, degree offerings, and legal framework. The commission is expected to submit its report by December 26, while NASA is accepting site proposals from states through October 26.
