Ohio leaders warn of data center growth and rising energy costs

Ohio political leaders and residents are raising concerns regarding the rapid expansion of data centers across the state and their impact on local communities. In Bowling Green, residents and Wood County Auditor candidate Mark Wongrowski held a rally against Jon Husted, accusing him of facilitating the growth of hundreds of data centers while leaving citizens to face rising electricity costs. One resident reported a significant increase in utility bills, noting a jump from $29 to $130 over the past year.

In Northeast Ohio, State Representative Tristan Rader and Cleveland Councilman Charles Slife also warned voters about the implications of unrestricted data center growth. The leaders expressed concern regarding potential conflicts of interest among gubernatorial candidates. Specifically, they highlighted Vivek Ramaswamy’s financial disclosures, which include investments in major technology companies like Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, and Nvidia, suggesting that his administration could prioritize corporate interests and personal investment gains over constituent needs.
