Ohrid and Struga granted until 2030 for UNESCO protection measures

The UNESCO World Heritage status for Ohrid and Struga remains a vital driver for international tourism, highlighting the unique combination of natural beauty, history, and the old city of Ohrid. University professor Sasho Korunovski noted that this status serves as a primary brand for foreign tourists.

Ohrid Mayor Kiril Pecakov reported improvements in meeting UNESCO requirements for status preservation. He noted that recent reports highlight high-level cooperation between North Macedonia and Albania. UNESCO has requested the formation of a working group to monitor measures and recommendations.

Following the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan, South Korea, the Ohrid region was not placed on the List of World Heritage in Danger. North Macedonia has been granted until 2030 to implement required protective measures, with a new progress report expected in early February 2027.
