North Macedonia marks 25 years of the Ohrid Framework Agreement
North Macedonia is marking the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Ohrid Framework Agreement, a landmark document that ended the 2001 armed conflict and established a foundation for multiethnic coexistence and democratic stability. High-ranking officials, including Minister for Inter-Community Relations Agon Ferati and Deputy Prime Minister Bekim Sali, participated in commemorative events in Skopje, emphasizing that the agreement remains a vital contract with the West and a cornerstone for European integration.
Leaders highlighted that the principles of the agreement are being institutionalized through new laws and significant economic investments. Key developments include over 250 million euros directed toward local projects and approximately 42 million euros for a new campus at Mother Teresa University. Infrastructure projects, such as investments in Corridor VIII and the Skopje–Blace highway, are also being prioritized to enhance regional connectivity with Albania, Kosovo, and the broader European market.
While the anniversary serves as a celebration of peace, political figures also used the occasion to discuss the ongoing responsibility of maintaining trust in institutions and ensuring that diversity remains a national strength rather than a source of division.
