Oi sells telephone services unit to Metodo Telecom for R$60.1 million

Oi, the Brazilian telecom operator under judicial recovery, signed a contract to sell its telephone services unit, UPI Oi Serviços Telefônicos, to Metodo Telecomunicações for R$60.1 million. The payment will be made in installments, with the first tranche due next week and the remainder within 90 days after the transition of documentation. The transaction, mandated by the 7th Business Court of Rio de Janeiro, aims to ease Oi’s cash constraints.

The sale is subject to regulatory clearance from Brazil’s telecom regulator Anatel and the competition authority Cade. The acquired assets serve 7,400 locations, including about 7,000 municipalities where Oi is the sole fixed‑line provider, and the service continuity obligation runs until December 2028. The deal is part of Oi’s broader asset‑divestment plan to meet its recovery‑court commitments and avoid a potential service shutdown in August 2026.
