Oi subsidiary Tahto enters judicial recovery amid labor protests

Tahto, a call center subsidiary of the bankrupt telecommunications operator Oi, has had its judicial recovery plan approved by a judge in Rio de Janeiro. The company, valued at approximately R$ 130 million, will undergo two years of judicial supervision, during which an administrator will submit monthly activity reports and quarterly balance sheets to the court.

The court has granted a 90-day window for the company to present pending tax regularity certificates. Failure to meet this deadline or comply with the restructuring plan could result in the company being declared bankrupt. The ruling also permits the sale of the business as an Isolated Productive Unit (UPI), allowing for the transfer of assets without the buyer inheriting existing debts.

Simultaneously, workers from Oi and Serede have organized protests to demand unpaid wages and severance. The Rio de Janeiro Telecommunications Workers' Union (Sinttel-Rio) reports that over 5,000 former Serede employees and 900 former Oi employees have not received their due payments. Labor representatives are seeking to recognize Oi and Serede as an economic group to ensure shared liability for debts and are calling for the use of assets, such as Tahto, to settle these labor claims.
