Saudi Arabian tanker catches fire after projectile strike in Red Sea
A tanker caught fire in the Red Sea after being struck by an unidentified projectile, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The incident occurred approximately 63 nautical miles west of Yanbu, a major Saudi Arabian oil port.
Reports indicate the strike caused a fire on the vessel's main deck. The UKMTO confirmed that all crew members are safe and accounted for, and there have been no reported environmental impacts from the incident. While UKMTO described the strike as an unidentified projectile, the security firm Vanguard Tech reported that a Saudi-flagged vessel was hit by a missile.
The attack occurs amid heightened tensions in the region, where Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi group has frequently targeted vessels. In response to regional conflicts, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei asserted that Iran maintains the right to strike the sources of any aggression against the Islamic Republic.
